Wilderness, Hoekwil, Kleinkrantz & Sedgefield lie all along a beautiful stretch of road between George and Knysna. 

There are a number of wellness practitioners, retreats and festivals along this route.

Things to see and do –

Wilderness

  • Spend some time soaking up the sun on the beautiful long sandy beach.
  • Take a scenic walks: along the beach or the side of the lagoon or the official trails in the National Park, one of which goes to a waterfall.
  • For the adventurous, you can try your hand at paragliding, with a couple of well known launch sites in the town.
  • The still waters of the lagoon provide great opportunities for canoeing, boat trips and fishing.
  • The short drive to the unique view of the Map of Africa is well worth it, as is the view from Dolphin Pont Lookout, from where you may get to see dolphins and whales at the right time of the year.
  • Just outside Wilderness is Wildwoods Acrobranch, where adults and children get the chance to climb and swing through the trees in a supervised environment.

Hoekwil

This beautiful village surrounded by the local farming community lays in the crook of the Touws River. The village is perched above the coastline offering beautiful scenery of the ocean, lakes and Outeniqua Mountain range.  The delightful village offers peace and quiet, a variety of accommodation, great restaurants, general stores, a post office and the local church towers over the village.

  • Visit the “Big Tree” at Woodville Hiking Trail, this Outeniqua Yellowwood tree thought to be as old as 850 years in age.
  • Travel the Seven Passes, though the Afromantane Forests and Farm Lands leaving one with breathless magnificence.

Sedgefield

    Sedgefield is renowned for its natural surroundings and picturesque landscapes. The town offers stunning views of the ocean, pristine beaches, and lush forests. The Swartvlei Lagoon, one of the town’s prominent features, is a popular spot for boating, fishing, and birdwatching.

    It is renowned for its Saturday market showcasing a wide range of fresh natural products, arts and crafts. Come early if you want to savour the tasty foods or stock up on fresh items as that market ends by 11am.
